Spiritual & Cultural Experiences
- Jambay Lhakhang: One of the oldest temples in Bhutan, built in the 7th century by Tibetan King Songtsen Don’t miss the annual Jambay Lhakhang Drup in the fall season.
- Chakhar Lhakhang: Known as the Iron Castle’, originally the site of King Sindhu Raja’s palace. The current temple structure was built by Dorje Lingpa.
- Kurje Lhakhang: Built around the body imprint of Guru Rinpoche, this is one of Bhutan’s most sacred pilgrimage sites.
- Tamshing Lhakhang: A spiritual gem founded by the great saint Perna Lingpa. Try walking around the temple three times with the ancient iron chain for blessings.
- Konchogsum Lhakhang: Built in the 9th century by King Trisong Detsen at Guru Rinpochc’s direction. Damaged by fire in 2010, it was fully restored and reconsecrated in 2014.
- Mebar Tsho (The Burning Lake): A sacred site where Pema Lingpa discovered treasure hidden by Guru An enchanting spot for reflection and prayer.
Nature & Scenic Walks
- Round the Valley Trail: A spiritually rich loop through five revered temples, crossing farmland, rivers, and sacred grounds. Ideal for a half- or full-day hike.
- Tharpaling Monastery Hike: A 4-6 hour hike through coniferous forest leading to panoramic views and the sacred monastery linked to Longchen Rabjam.
- Petseling (Padtselling) Monastery Hike: A 2-3 hour hike through pine forests to a serene monastery with views of Jakar Valley. Can be extended to Bebzur Village for a full 4-5 hour round trip.
- Ura Valley Excursion: Explore traditional villages, sweeping pastures, and the charming Ura Temple surrounded by cobbled paths.
The Four Sacred Caves
- Choedrak Goenpa — Above Tharpaling Monastery, founded by Lorena. Preserves Guru Rinpochc’s body and hat imprint; later visited by Longchen Rabjam.
